Learning Habits
Learn Smarter...
Effective learning habits can be used to improve your ability to better retain reading material. These habits include approaching studies with the right attitude, choosing the right environment, minimizing distractions, setting a realistic schedule, and employing memory games, among many other strategies.
I would like to talk about learning habits and how it will be benefited to your life.
First of all, you are required to have a positive mindset, with the willingness to do work not harder but smarter.
The most important thing is being an active learner in the class. What you mean by being an active learner?
"Active learning is when you do activities, such as reading, writing, discussions or problem solving, which encourage you to analyze, synthesize and evaluate the information being looked at."
This can be done as a peer, group or class discussion. Having said that, to become an active learner you need to be more active in
asking questions, make your notes while you do your research or listening to a session. Sometimes, you can discuss with your friend what you have learned and also you can make your own journal.
Do you think now you are an active learner?
Still, there are more to do...
Don't just read your resource materials, do all the activities as well. Then analyze it and make judgments of your notes.
Identify the main points in the material you're reading and highlight them or write them down.
Try different ways of writing notes –Mind maps, scribble, short notes, etc....
Make many questions related to the same concept and ask from your facilitator whenever required.
Designing a healthy learning environment with organized materials make you more effective in your learning. That means you need to have a summary of your lessons, critical thinking questions, discussions, and healthy arguments.
Most important thing is that you need to make a study plan and give them a deadline, Simply you need a time frame to work on and check your progress.
After your study session, it's a must that you have a revision using a test tracking system or do some past papers to check your progress and understanding of the question by critically analyzing.
Now, let's discuss some activities that you can do in the class to make your studies improved.
Use flashcards
Peer tutoring
Three-step interview
Rotating task list in different learning stations.
Reciprocal questioning
All you need is do your work and revise them in a timely manner.
